This year, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee is holding monthly meetings for varsity women athletes to be a part of an open discussion on various topics.

The first Women Empowering Women discussion was held Wednesday on the topic of “Health and Body Image” with Melissa Bryan, sports nutritionist, and Dr. Denise Lovin, psychologist and coordinator of the in Eating Concerns Program on campus. The two answered and encouraged discussion among the women in attendance through insight on the topic and hands-on activities to spark conversation.

Women Empowering Women discussions are open to all women on varsity athletic teams that wish to participate. Meetings are held every third Wednesday of the month from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Whitewater Room in Plemmons Student Union. If you are a female athlete and would like to know more or request certain topics to be covered, contact Brittany Whiteside or the SAAC representative for your team.

Brittney and the #unapologetic wome of App State Athletics take a selfie with their "You Are Beautiful" stickers on after the meeting. The stickers were given to each woman to place on one of their teammates to profess that they truly are beautiful, inside and out!
